WHAT IS THE PARENT PORTAL?
PowerSchool is the district’s electronic student management system where we collect and store student information. The Parent Portal is the “doorway” into our system giving parents access to information about their children.
Although the Parent Portal was functional last school year, some improvements have been made to the system. The vendor has finalized the “Single Parent Sign On,” so we are ready to “go.” This new feature will allow parents/guardians to manage an “account” which provides access to all of their student’s information by only signing into PowerSchool once, instead of having to view each student’s information separately. I apologize for the “wait,” but I think that this feature was worth the slight delay in deployment.
WHY SHOULD YOU VISIT THE PARENT PORTAL?
The Parent Portal gives parents/guardians and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades, assignments, and teacher comments. Everyone is able to “stay connected.” Students can stay on top of assignments, parents are able to participate in their student’s progress, and teachers can share information with parents and students.
WHAT IS NEW THIS YEAR?
The Parent Single Sign-On offers a number of benefits, including access to multiple (up to 7) students with one login, a personalized account for each parent and guardian, and the ability for parents/guardians to retrieve their own login information. Whether a parent has one (1) or multiple students in Belen Schools, the parent will create their own account and be able to manage it on their own. Once the parent/guardian account is established, one or more students can be added to the account. Email notifications will be sent to the primary email address associated to a parent/guardian account when either the parent or the PowerSchool Administrator makes a change to the account. Changes such as adding a student, removing a student, changes to the first or last name, changes to the user name or password, or changes to the email address will trigger those notifications. When the email address is changes, the notice will be sent to both the old and new email address. With the Single Parent Sign-On, email preferences are maintained per parent/guardian, per student.
We hope this feature will make the Parent Portal much more user friendly. As always, if you have comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or call my office at 505-966-1125.
Please click here to create your account. Once the account is created, the parent will use the login and password they developed to access their student information.
