Belen Board of Education Resolution and Proclamation:

On November 9, 2010, Belen Board of Education members unanimously approved a resolution and proclamation calling for a $23.75 million Bond Election on February 1, 2011 to improve specific sites and provide money for technology, safety and security across the district.

The bond money is planned for the following projects if voters support the bond:

·         A new Family School building
·         A replacement wing at Dennis Chavez Elementary
·         A classroom addition at H. T. Jaramillo Elementary
·         A classroom addition at La Merced Elementary
·         Renovations at Gil Sanchez Elementary
·         An Industrial Arts building at Belen Middle School
·         An indoor community swimming pool at Belen High School
·         Funds for district-wide technology
·         Funds for district-wide safety and security

If the bond passes, homeowners would pay the same amount in property taxes and extend the life of the tax in order to pay off the bonds.

Also, included in the resolution and proclamation is an election for three Board of Education positions, one each from Districts 1, 2 and 3 for a full term of four years.

The resolution and proclamation further includes a two mill levy question to impose a property tax of $2.00 per each $1,000.00 of net taxable value of property allocated to the Belen Consolidated School District No. 2 for the property tax years, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 for school improvements.

The two mill levy helps BCS maintain its fifteen (15) school sites with repairs, heating, cooling, wells, furnishings, improving school grounds, etc.
